Transitioning Skills For A Second Career

October 22, 2014

Ann Smith had a full career as a social worker and psychotherapist. As her life situation changed, she found that she wanted an opportunity to work from home. She has built her “second act†on a beloved African proverb: When an elder dies, it is as if a library burned to the ground.

Her passion for preserving stories has led her to create her encore business, Life Stories Remembered, LLC, where she helps people preserve their memories and life stories in a variety of formats.

Ann’s business revolves around interviewing elders to preserve their stories for their posterity. Her first experience as a ‘personal historian’ she shares the story of working with Max Rosenn, Judge of the 3rd Circuit Federal Court, renowned attorney and jurist, and most respected legal authority in Northeast Pennsylvania.

At a community dinner, he shared incredible memories of his childhood. Impressed by his amazing recall of dates, names, and events from decades past, Ann arranged to do an in-person interview with him that lasted for 25 hours…six months! “He truly enjoyed the experience. After his death, his sons were thrilled to have that first-hand material.
