Yes, Gideon was the hero of the nation of Israel, but he understood who the REAL king of Israel was – and Gideon refused to take on the responsibility or glory of being Israel’s first mortal king. But upon his death, a self-serving politician stepped in to lead the fools that wanted to share the limelight with their cult leader rather than govern themselves according to the rules of the kingdom given at Mount Sinai.
