Going from Pain to Purpose: Endometriosis Awareness Advocate

March 31, 2017

Dealing with Endometriosis

Michelle N. Johnson, Wellness Educator
Endometriosis Advocate

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Each year millions of women and girls are impacted by this debilitating disease.  Over 176 million women are fighting a silent war that is upending their lives. It crosses ethnicity/race, age and socio-economic levels.  Endometriosis is hard to detect and often misdiagnosed.
Listen to our interview as she shares insights and strategies to effectively deal with Endometriosis. In the U.S. on average, it takes 10 years from symptom onset to receive an accurate diagnosis of endometriosis.
Some of the top symptoms include:
Severe bleeding during your period (like hemorrhaging)
Lower back and abdominal pain
Vomiting, nausea, and headaches
Prevents you from getting out of bed or doing daily activities
It hits women in the prime of their reproductive lives and impacts women and girls from age 12 to age 60. The symptoms mimic other conditions.
Michelle N. Johnson turned the pain she endured from this disease into a purpose to educate others.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Educator for over 10 years, Michelle N. Johnson fights fiercely to educate, enlighten and empower individuals to become proactive participants in their health and wellness management.
She brings awareness every March to the plight of those with Endometriosis through her annual Fighting Fiercely © educational campaign and expo.  She is a member of the Endometriosis Association, and author of the Endometriosis resource guide: Fighting Fiercely: Unveiling the Unknown about Endometriosis in June of 2015. She states, “I give women a roadmap for what the next steps should be after diagnosis. I share in-depth research on treatment options and make recommendations for specialists.”
