The Week in Review
Diet Talk

This week I was able to drop down 3.8 lbs. or 1.36 kg.  My body fat percentage has gone down to 24 percent, but it’s become a little stagnant in that area now. I’m not sure if it’s the tool that I’m using, which can vary on hand temp, hand position, or even hydration level; or if it’s just the food that I’m eating.  Of course I could just be looking for any sign that I am failing too.  I am beginning to think that one of the downsides of my previous history of losing so fast is that I have a big problem with the slow progress I am currently experiencing even if I know mentally that it’s the best way to lose weight.  It’s just a bit frustrating to me to see slower results though as I’m sure most of you can relate to.

Regardless of these feelings, following my new diet is going really well for the most part.  I feel that the dietary information that I got in Bigger, Leaner, Stronger has really helped me quite a bit in making some progress.  It’s been a big increase in my protein intake, but it’s been fairly beneficial in making me feel better and curbing my appetite.  The biggest change for me has been the increase in the amount of protein drinks from 2 to 4 times a day to compensate.  What I’d like to do in the next few weeks is dial that back down to 2 a day (not including my post-workout shake) and replace that with actual food such as cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, fish, or some other kind of lean protein while staying within my calorie range.  It’s not that I don’t like the drinks or anything, but most of the informational sources that I’ve listened to or read from recommend taking in as much protein as possible from actual food.  Again, I have nothing against protein drinks, but real food just seems better for your body.

I’ve still had a couple of incidents where I’ve gotten up and eaten in the middle of the night and had binges.  It hasn’t been nearly as bad as in the past, but it’s still going on.  I’m doing my best not to hold it against myself and move forward.  I mean those of us who have issues with food will most likely always have issues.  The best we can do is treat it just like any other disorder; one day at a time.  And just like we would for a child or another loved one, we forgive and love ourselves.

Gym Talk

The gym is going on as usual, but I discuss how reading Beyond 5/3/1 might affect my current workout I adapted from the original 5/3/1 book.   I still stress that if you’re looking at building a strength routine, that you purchase the original book first and then move to “Beyond†as it builds on the first book and centers more on adaptations of the program.
