Episode 18: Dr Carrie Purcell on self-management of abortion

August 17, 2017

In this episode, Karen talks to Dr Carrie Purcell, a Research Associate, in the Social Relationships & Health Improvement Programme at the MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow.  Carrie talks about a recent publication in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology entitled 'Self-management of first trimester medical termination of pregnancy: a qualitative study of women’s experiences'. The qualitative findings focus on the experiences of women in Scotland who return home to complete medical termination of pregnancy (TOP) ≤63 days of gestation, after being administered with mifepristone and misoprostol at an NHS TOP clinic. As the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Abortion Act is coming up, Carrie also spoke about this and mentioned a forthcoming event at the Edinburgh Fringe festival 'My Body, My Life'.  On the 24th August, Carrie is hosting an event 'The Abortion Act at 50'.
