Episode 14 – Matt Scott

May 22, 2015

Hey E'rybody! Kevin here again. Sorry for the delay in getting this episode uploaded. For once it wasn't purely technical issues that created the SNAFU. I've just been SUPER busy in real life. I'm stoked to finally have it ready for you! We had a really good time chatting with our friend Matt. Matt is a local Renaissance Man and long time friend. We discussed all manner of things, including the documentary "The Culture High", GMOs, Mountain Biking, Skateboarding, etc. All-in-all kind of a typical Santa Cruz conversation when I think about it. As has become my habit, I've also tracked down some links for you guys to check out some of the things we talked about. Enjoy this dose of Ear Candy and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! It's FREE! Just click the purple iTunes link on the left side of the page. If you have the Podcast App you can change your setting so School of Talk downloads automatically when it's uploaded! How sweet is that?! We love you all! Thanks for listening and supporting the show!

The skating documentary I couldn't recall the name of is "All This Mayhem" and it is about Aussie brothers Ben and Tas Pappas. I will definitely be checking it out. I suggest you do the same! Here are links to the Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wDiszmA2o8) and a blurb about it from Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/videos/all-this-mayhem-trailer-rise-and-fall-of-the-pappas-brothers-20140828) It is also currently streaming on Netflix.

The suspension skate trucks that Matt told us about are from Avenue Trucks (http://www.avenuetrucks.com/). Here's a link to their Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/avenuetrucks/avenue-suspension-skateboard-trucks).

The Documentary Matt mentioned - "The Future of Food" (http://www.thefutureoffood.com/). The website includes a trailer of the film.

The guy who flew before the Wright Brothers was Gustave Whitehead (http://www.historynet.com/gustave-whitehead-and-the-first-flight-controversy.htm). Here's a short video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucm80BYUXEE) of the replica built in the late '90s.

The infamous Jimi Hendrix/Bob Marley (http://www.epicfail.com/2011/03/15/tattoo-fail-23/) tattoo fail. The "No Ragrets" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjkLKKgOMRY) scene from "We're the Millers".

There are probably some link ideas I missed. A few things that I searched for I couldn't find. The one that bummed me out the most was the Jack Bauer line that James quoted. Ah well. Namaste.
