Schlock’s Podcast #14 – Prometheus, Hell, TV

July 02, 2012

And, all of a sudden, Summer's here. Can you believe it? We can't. Not that the supposed holiday season is enjoyed much by the Schlock crew, what with our being very busy with Hell Week and the discussion and recording of our latest  edition of the (slightly late?) monthly podcast. But don't worry! This month's edition is a good one, seriously.

We turn our attentions to Ridley Scott's latest forays into territories of a sci-fi variety, Prometheus, as Teodor, Pete, Maxine and Marco tackle what's surely the season's most divisive big budget blockbuster yet. Is it a worthy heir to the psycho-sexual space horror throne dominated by Scott's own Alien? Our brave discussonauts attempt to approach a consensus...

Bettina also provides an essay as means of conclusion to our Hell Week, while Marco goes solo on his rumination of the month's worthy (and not so worthy) picks of a pop cultural nature. (Don't tell him we said this, but he actually really likes The Big Bang Theory - Ed).

As usual, do let us know what you think, and make sure to leave a review either on the comments or on iTunes!

Flash Fiction

00:39 - Streets by Teodor Reljic

03:00 - Living on an Island is Like... (part 2) by Michael Vella

Discussion

06:17 - Horrors emerge - from the very edges of space and time! Teodor, Pete, Maxine and Marco rush in where angels fear to tread by discussing Ridley Scott's most recent take on the sci-fi genre (and prequel to his own Alien) Prometheus. Is it a worthy follow up-cum-addition or not? Hell, what "genre" does it even fit in to begin with? Also, find out which film from the franchise is the Schlock team's favourite.

For full effect, this discussion was recorded in an increasingly smoke-filled room.

Feature

49:08 - Hell by Bettina Borg Cardona, read by Peter Farrugia

53:31 - Pop Culture Destruction! - Marco takes the soap box once again with a selection of the TV shows, comics and music that caught his attention over the past month. Or was that... last weekend? Amongst others, there's talk on HBO's Girls and The Big Bang Theory, as well as DC Comics' latest attempts to add on to Watchmen and the evaluation of the recent live performances of Friends of Schlock Monobrow MP and Brikkuni.

Special thanks go to Chris Galea, for providing the soundscapes for the podcast.
