Having Beignets with Kyle Nicolaides

October 11, 2016

Greetings & salutations…
Welcome to Another Cat’s Tale Podcast.

There is a bit of a back story to this podcast. My friend & I had been talking about different scenarios. “What if” this happened, etc. I had ran into the The Struts busdriver and my friend was still on cloud nine because we had just talked about “what if” we ran into the busdriver. Kind of the “law of attraction” kind of stuff, if you believe in that kind of thing.
She had looked at Kyle’s Facebook and seen that he had been at Café du Monde the day before and we probably just missed him. I just happened to turn around behind me. There was Kyle Nicolaides sitting by himself waiting for his order of beignets. I invited him to sit with us while we finished our beignets. To my friend this was a sign of good luck, that the universe just sun-kissed us.
Kyle Nicolaides is the frontman of the progressive, alternative rock band “Beware of Darkness.” His other band mates are drummer-Tony Cupito & bassist-Daniel Curcio. They just had a new CD release “Are you Real?” on Bright Antenna Records. The day after their concert in New Orleans at the Republic Nola their song “Muthafucka” was released. Its the music that pulls you in, I don’t focus too much on the words. There are some pounding booms, slow hazy tunes that make you wanna get lost in your own head. When I first started listening to them I wasn’t sure if they were more of a religious rock band. Lots of mention of heaven & hell, salvation and death.

I first met them in Bolingbrook Illinois at the “No dough Show” at Tailgators they opened for The Struts, I wasn’t too impressed with them. However I did enjoy watching them perform. Watching Tony Cupito in motion, banging away captivated me.  He gives 100% during his performances. I love watching his hair flip up & down as he bangs away. I like that he is not hidden behind a series of equipment.
