Geek Revolution Radio #168 – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

May 08, 2017

Can they save the galaxy a second time?  The simple answer is… yes.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is the 15th film from Marvel Studios, and the 15th film to open #1 in the box office in its first weekend.   That’s right, Marvel Studios is going strong, and it is ever more seen in the Guardians sequel.  From the opening sequence to the end credits, this movie is a blast.  In this weeks episode, we breakdown everything there is to love about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, Will and Ryan discussed the current state of Marvel on Netflix.  With two great series in Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the last two series haven’t panned out.  Iron Fist and Luke Cage have been received with mixed response, with Iron Fist getting the most negative feedback.  Is this a bad sign for The Defenders?  Is all hope lost for a new series.
Will and Ryan also discussed the upcoming film Wonder Woman.  With little buzz seen between both guys, we wonder if the film is being marketed more towards women.  With just under a month until it releases, could we see a lot more Wonder Woman in advertising on social media and tv?
Part 2- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Without being overly biased and lacking any critique, is there much doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wasn’t going to be successful?  From a great opening weekend, high praise from critics, and love from the fans, Guardians is easily a hit.  In its opening weekend, the film brought in $145 million domestically, and raked in $425 million world wide.  It’s clear Marvel has another hit on its hands.
Ryan and Will discussed what they loved most about the film, including a surprise performance from Michael Rooker.  Just a warning, this episode is full of spoilers.
