Geek Revolution Radio #156 – Doctor Strange

November 14, 2016

Marvel continues to pump out great films, and it is evident with the addition of Doctor Strange.  They’ve taken a character that some aren’t familiar with and made it a hit.  On this week’s episode the guys discuss the film, the character, and how great Benedict Cumberbatch was in the film. This week is all about Doctor Strange and where he fits in the extending Marvel Universe.

Part One – Intro
To start out the show, Will gave a review of the new movie Arrival, staring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.  This part scifi, part drama, part mystery was a great emotional ride until the end.  Be sure to listen to the show and see why Will says this is one of the greatest scifi films he’s seen in a long time.
The guys also talked there at the end about the current state on the Walking Dead, including where the show is going.  With overall optimisim, the guys did express some displeasure in having episodes that go away from the main group’s story.  You’ve essentially got two episode inbetween the main story.  Overall though, Will and Ryan are pretty happy with how things are shaping up in the story, and look forward to where it goes.
Part Two – Doctor Strange
Where some heroes gain their super powers from technology, and others gain it through “accidents”, Doctor Strange introduces us to a new form of super power gained through the world of “magic” or mystic arts.  It was an all around great film that didn’t strungle in the story telling.  From a strong lead in Benedict Cumberbatch, to a good villian in Mads Mikkelsen, this movie fulfilled a growing tradition with Marvel and its ability to tell good stories with great characters.  Both Ryan and Will found Doctor Strange to be quite enjoyable.  Take a listen for their full review on the movie, and why it’s worth checking out in 3D.
