foley sound effects in movies and the recording studio - ROTTER TUBE REEF podcast

October 21, 2015

Ever since I was a kid in the 1980’s I loved the arts, especially when it came to sound effects and movie making. I started photography at a very early age and continue to work in audio engineering to this day in my home recording studio. I wanted to briefly talk about foley sound effects and what they are, in film making. Recording studios have come a very long way since recording on tape, reel to reel back in the day, in the 1990’s and before. I started on 2 track tape, then 4 track recording studio, utilizing all types of mixing boards. Now it can all be done in your home on a mac or pc even without the need for a mixing board. Most people love this new technology but others hate it, saying tape is much better. It’s the entire analog vs. digital debate. I love them both but will take digital for the ease of editing and the unlimited options. Much more to come on this topic. Thanks for listening!
