Oh yeah. The old nine to five. The other day, a friend of mine told me a story of how his step-dad worked that kind of job for thirty years. And hated every day of it. Because it was boring beyond words. In fact, there were times the step-dad could even nap on the job when things slowed down. But he put in his thirty years. Because the company paid “good benefits” and had a “great retirement package.” And he’s been living on that retirement package for over twenty years now.

But how many nine to five jobs have that kind of security?
In my business I’ve talked to a lot of people who say they don’t believe that’s reality anymore. But they’re not sure what to do. So, they get up each day and live out the words to Dolly Parton’s song…
Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen;
Pour myself a cup of ambition,
And yawn, and stretch, and try to come to life.
Jump in the shower, and the blood starts pumping;
Out on the street, the traffic starts jumping,
With folks like me on the job from nine to five.
