News Espresso: Fiona Hill warns of more Russian interference, Iraqi protesters killed in clashes, French zoo searches for escaped red panda

November 21, 2019

Former White House national security adviser Fiona Hill says the contention from some Republicans that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election is "fictional." During House testimony in President Trump's impeachment probe, she warned lawmakers not to advance a politically motivated narrative helpful to Russia as they defend Trump. Hill, who stressed she's "nonpartisan," said Russia and its proxies have geared up for 2020 election interference. Iraqi officials says several anti-government protesters've been killed during heavy clashes with security forces in Baghdad. Dozens more were hurt. Protesters've been occupying parts of Baghdad's three main bridges leading to the heavily fortified Green Zone, the seat of Iraq's government. A search is on for a red panda that broke out of a zoo in southeastern France. The zoo says the endangered animal was last seen 3 miles from the park by a surprised driver. The park says the panda escaped last Friday by climbing up branches broken by snowfall.
