The NCAA DI cross country season kicks into full gear this weekend with the beginning of the “at-large countable” portion of the schedule. Kicking off this part of the season with a bang is Friday's Boston College Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, and making his 2015 debut for No. 3 Syracuse at Franklin Park will be Justyn Knight.
The star Canadian distance runner made his overall NCAA debut at this meet a year ago with high expectations (listen to hear what his lofty goal was) and has since had his share of highs and lows. On one hand, he went on to finish top-25 at the World Junior XC Championships, run 13:34 at 5000 meters on the track, finish sixth over 5000 meters at NCAA Outdoors, and even win an ACC 1500 meters title with one shoe. On the other, he had an off day at the NCAA XC Championships and finished 143rd overall (find out why in our interview).
One year later, he’s one of the most-talked about individual contenders in NCAA cross country and will look to run alongside XC All-American teammate Martin Hehir as the Orange contend for the national team title.
Plus, we break down this weekend’s action at Boston College and Minnesota’s Roy Griak Invitational – both of which can be followed LIVE on the USTFCCCA National Results Wall – as well as big meets at Virginia, Oklahoma State and Stanford.
