We Shouldn’t Worry – Episode 17

January 23, 2015

Worry is one of the more destructive things we do in our lives. And yet most of us know we shouldn’t be doing it. Medical research has found there are direct physical effects to worrying. Worry triggers fight or flight response, is toxic to our nervous system and heart, can lead to heart attacks, increases risk of strokes, causes stomach ulcers, creates muscle pain and headaches, disrupts digestive system, suppresses immune system, disturbs peace of mind, makes concentration difficult, and disrupts slee.p If left unchecked, worry can lead to depression and in the most extreme cases can even kill us. The Bible cautions us about worry. 3,000 years ago Solomon knew what modern science has found. Proverbs 12:25 says, "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad." Jesus himself also instructed us not to worry because it's pointless. And still worrying is one of those things that nearly everyone does at least from time to time that has significant negative affects and absolutely no positive benefits whatsoever.
