Fantasy Hockey X — Season Finale Recap

April 30, 2015

It has been a privilege to cover daily fantasy hockey with Fantasy Hockey X all year. It was even better to have Michael Clifford and Christopher Pacheco as co-hosts. A special thanks to ProjectRoto for allowing us to do this every so often.

The last first run episode of the season was on Tuesday night as we previewed Round 2 of the NHL playoffs. It was a fun blast as we looked at betting lines and more to get DFS players ready for the second round where the slate become shorter yet and the challenges rise to find those plays that will gain you glory.
Fantasy Hockey X
As always the link is attached to the post below. The show was pretty much a straightforward 60 minutes with a five minute major tacked on at the end to thank people. There was a lot of fun banter as we asked a few questions but there was one that seemed to hit Mr. Clifford and he came out counter punching!

Could Michel Therrien actually cost Montreal a series?

It sounded crazy on the surface but when you think about it deeply, Therrien definitely can and could cost Montreal a game or two. Just ask Pittsburgh how it went in the final against Detroit in 2008. There was at least one game where his decisions could at least be viewed as questionable. At any rate, too many times in his tenure in Pittsburgh were marred by stubbornness.

That same stubborn nature has plagued him a bit in Montreal to say the least. As the second round plays out, it is definitely going to be interesting to see if adversity causes the unforced errors fans and media like fear.

The high money lines that we keep on seeing.

A big spotlight was thrown out to the -183 money line given to Tampa on Wednesday where the bookies seemed to just keep on the crusade of promoting Tampa hard in a series where the Lightning cannot sustain momentum. Detroit can play rope a dope or play with more offensive thrust seemingly and yet Tampa managed to score the first goal of Game 7 in the third period.

As Detroit kept taking more and more chances, no one knew what to expect but the dangerous game they had played was coming back to haunt them.

Now the New York Rangers are a -170+ on the money line against the Washington Capitals on Thursday and again no one can figure that out either. It is a bizarre thing where the last four series between the teams have been split and Barry Trotz is a rather good defensive minded coach. So why a money line that much above 140? It is a great question but it does make that puck line a very appealing one. Sometimes the bookies are crazy but that helps DFS owners who can plan accordingly then try to sneak the puck line

A little more DFS talk.....

Lastly, we closed out the way we began with the goal of expanding the DFS hockey horizons. Yes we will continue on as long as daily continues on and then we will go into draft and prospect mode. After that, there will be free agent frenzy impacts and much more. We have hardly begun to stop. Hockey is becoming more and more of a year round entity. We will have some daily picks for FanDuel on Twitter during the day, Thursday. Thanks for reading!
