#9 Navigating the Smart City w/ Ross Atkin

April 22, 2015

This episode I’ve invited researcher, designer and engineer Ross Atkin in to talk about his work and the concept of the Smart City. Ross is a Senior Research Associate at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at Royal College of Art in London, where he worked for BT, Commission for Architecture in the Built Environment and the Future Cities Catapult. Ross also runs his own design practise, where he works on inclusive technology and infrastructure projects for clients such as Marshalls, TfL and Scope.
We discussed the smart city, his Clever City Manifesto, flow dynamics in urban environments and the role that design and big data play in the architecture of the 21st Century. Ross also goes into some of his work on entropy in connected objects. And talks about his award for the Design Museum "Design of the Year 2015" for his project on Responsive Street Furniture.
