#3 Designing to Inspire w/ Mark Champkins, Inventor at British Science Museum

February 19, 2015

For this episode, we spoke to award-winning Product Designer, Mark Champkins. Mark shared some great insights on manufacturing, designing for education and promoting your work.

Mark Champkins is a product designer, inventor and entrepreneur. In 2004 he founded Concentrate to design products to help children focus better at school. He took Concentrate into the Dragons Den and survived, receiving backing from investor Peter Jones. Over the next eight years, Concentrate released a string of successful products including the Chair Pad Bag and the Healthy Lunchbox.

Following the success of Concentrate and building on his work in education, Mark was appointed Inventor in Residence at the British Science Museum in 2011. While working at the Science Museum, he has designed a birthday present for Stephen Hawking, and created the delightful Open Up Lamp.

If there is one word you could use to describe Mark is it “prolific”. It was great having Mark on the show to share some lessons from his fascinating career in product design.
