Parental Geekery

Episode 63 – Show Me, Xiaomi Mi

October 12, 2015

Welcome back to another episode of Parental Geekery - the podcast for parents and geeks. This week we are celebrating being named as the latest U.K. Podcasters featured podcast and would like to welcome any new listeners who have found us recently.

We talk about Catherine's 8th birthday, and the plans for her upcoming birthday party which is being held at a local climbing centre.

Ruth gives her opinion on the new iPhone 6s. John admits he's seriously tempted by the Nexus 6P if only for the sake of having a fingerprint reader. We also consider whether it's better to have buttons on the side or the back of your phone. Ruth has popped her Apple Pay cherry and shares the experience.

We give a quick review of Google's new Chromecast Audio product, and a preview of the new Apple TV.

John's thoughts then turn to tablets, following the death of his Nexus 7. He is considering the iPad Pro, the Google Pixel C or the new Microsoft Surface Book.

We've been asked by our friend and listener Claire to share our thoughts on Windows 10, which we do. Ruth reads a useful article from How To Geek on How to Stop Windows 10 From Uploading Updates to Other PCs Over the Internet, although we're unsure whether Microsoft have changed the default for this setting as John's PC seems to have been set correctly with no action from him.

John has just bought himself a Xiaomi Mi Band fitness tracker. He is finding the supplied wrist band a little tight, so has ordered himself a larger strap from this website. He also considered a Misfit Shine before deciding on the Xiaomi.
