Parental Geekery

Episode 55 – Live Long & Prosper

March 01, 2015

This week's episode of Parental Geekery is packed with a variety of topics. We start off with a conversation about table-top role-playing games as John talks about his evenings spent playing Pathfinder with a group of friends, and Ruth bemoans a lack of D&D in her life. We then move on to board games, and talk about the games we have enjoyed playing as a family, as well as games we'd like to play in the future. We mention The Game of Life (comparing the old edition to the new edition), Kids of Carcassonne, Catan Junior (which we incorrectly call Pirates of Catan) and Dungeon!

As a Nintendo family blogger Ruth has just been given access to download a review copy of the forthcoming Mario Party 10 on the Wii-U and we give our initial impressions of the game, which actually plays much like a board game.

We had a rare kid-free night this weekend as both of ours went for a sleepover at their cousin's house. We of course made the most of this by going out for the evening, but not with each other! John took part in a Pathfinder evening, and Ruth went to a play reading.

The saga of Ruth's gallstones continues. Ruth has now had her MRI scan, and talks about what a very "science fiction" experience it all was.

John has turned his hand to plumbing by attempting to install a new kitchen tap. You can hear how successful that was.

And we couldn't finish this week without paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy who has just died. We talk about his final tweet, and also about his photography.
