Parental Geekery

Episode 49 - Shivs, Serial and the Birthday Party of the Year

November 18, 2014

Welcome back to another epiosode of Parental Geekery. We open this week with a discussion as to what a Shiv is. Random I know, but that’s how we roll sometimes!

Our friend Richard has posted a video in the Parental Geekery Google+ community that is supposed to be the next “Gangnam Style”. We’re not convinced, and we’re certainly not going to play it on the show, but it has inspired us to share our latest obsession with you all. We play an excerpt from “Gimme Chocolate” by Babymetal.

It was Catherine’s birthday party this weekend. We talk about why it came so long after her birthday, and what the party actually entailed. We also think we may have cracked that age-old problem of how to get kids to write their thank you letters.

Discussion moves to sweets, and in particular how to get more (according to a 7 year old). That 7 year old nearly got run over today.

We’ve both been listening to the Serial podcast, and are very much enjoying it. We also make the most of an opportunity to mention Game of Thrones again :)

John’s playing Valkyria Chronicles, and wants to tell you all (again) about his revamped Photowalkthrough site.
