OL 044: Three New Things in Orlando This Week

May 30, 2017

Discover Three New Things in Orlando This Week
We recorded this show over the Memorial Day weekend and really had a great time. There are some new attractions in town to go with some incredibly hot weather, making three new things in Orlando.
1: Opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar
You can now get into Pandora – The World of Avatar with your normal park pass to Animal Kingdom. We had our Passholder Preview and discussed it on a previous episode of the show. You can check it out here, and we also have some video to share.
While we didn't get the best experience of Pandora on our Passholder Preview day, that doesn't mean we won't give it another shot. However, we recommend avoiding it for the first couple of weekends because the opening crowd was absolutely insane. People waited over four hours just to ride Flights of Passage.
It's only a 4 minute ride!
We think you'll enjoy Pandora more when you aren't standing shoulder to shoulder with other guests for a four hour wait in a queue that lacks basic ventilation.
2: Opening of Volcano Bay
Volcano Bay is the new water park at Universal Studios Orlando and it looks awesome! I really hate the word “awesome”, so you know this must be a great place if I call it “awesome.”
We're looking forward to visiting Volcano Bay and trying out the slides, the pool and the food.
Just one word of warning before you go. Guests who aren't staying at the resorts have to park in the regular parking garage, which isn't close to Volcano Bay. You then board a shuttle bus that takes you to the water park, and back to the garage.
I'm not sure why there isn't parking close to the attraction, but it's just one thing to keep in mind before you go.
3: Summer Weather is Here
OK, maybe this isn't new in Florida. It's hot here. The temps are hitting near 100 degrees lately, and the humidity is also rising. If you're planning a trip to Orlando, don't expect any more cold fronts. Summer weather is in full force now.
Looking for some ways to Escape the Heat? We have you covered with a previous podcast helping you learn where to cool off in Disney Parks.
The Orlando Local YouTube Channel
You may not have noticed, but we started a YouTube channel for Orlando local and would love to hear your suggestions for new  videos.
The easiest way to find it is to just go to https://orlandolocal.com/youtube. We have about a dozen videos at the moment and plans to keep adding more.
If there is something you'd like us to show you on a video, please leave a comment and we'll see if we can do it.
Recommendation of the Week
This one should be no surprise. Since the hot summer weather is back, there's only one appropriate way to deal with it.
Get wet!
We suggest you hit a water park, a pool or go to the beach. Check out places like:

* Volcano Bay
* Blizzard Beach
* Typhoon...
