A missing tooth can have serious consequences for the individual but tooth replacement has been a staple of the dentistry field for generations and today there are many options available for patients.

If you’re interested in improving your oral health and learning about replacing missing teeth then you’ll want to invest 20 minutes to listen to this edition of The Oral Health Show. In this episode, your host Nick Jaworski interviews Dr. Norm Ickert, Director of Ickert Dental Implant Centre in Langley, about the options available to you for replacing missing teeth.

If you are at risk of losing a tooth, or you have already lost some of your teeth, this podcast will help you understand your options.

The Preferred Method of Replacement

Dr. Ickert begins by talking to the audience about the preferred method of tooth replacement which is dental implant support restoration. This has several benefits which includes the strength it can offer the individual and the longevity of the treatment. Dr. Ickert was also keen to point out with the advances of technology, the outcome of this procedure is easier to predict.

Bridging the Gap

Another option which Dr. Ickert speaks about on the podcast is the fixed bridge option. This can be considered if the individual has strong teeth remaining. This has been the most conventional method for the last half a century.

However, the procedure can have some drawbacks as he explains in the podcast which can lead to further loss of teeth.

This is because teeth are designed to work in a certain way. When joined together they are more rigid and prone to loosing the cement seal around them. This in turn can allow a bacterial infection to take hold.

The Denture Options

One of the final options discussed are partial (where teeth are still present) or full dentures (where no teeth are present). Yet this method has associated drawbacks as well as advantages.

A State of Wellbeing

Dr. Ickert really does point out there is a need to replace teeth. Beside the convenience of eating there are the aesthetic and mental wellbeing concerns for individuals with missing teeth. Also a missing tooth can cause the individual to lose their jaw shape and age them prematurely.

To find out if you should seek advice on tooth replacement, why not answer these questions:

  • Are you missing any teeth?
  • Do you have any teeth which are looking like they could be lost in the near future?
  • Are you concerned about your future appearance associated with the recent loss of your tooth?
  • Do you currently have a fixed bridge or a denture?

If so, perhaps now is the time to check with your dentist to discover the right solution for you.

Are you thinking about going to see your dentist about a replacement tooth? Have you recently lost a tooth and are wondering what your options are? Then listen to Dr. Ickert in this podcast to discover more and come back and give us your thoughts!
