2 Chronicles 32:7-8 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.’” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.

Samaritan’s Purse is responding to the recent Ukraine crisis and assessing the most urgent needs on the ground. Kristy Graham takes you behind the scenes as plans develop for the multi-level response.

She first sits down with Dave Holzhauer, the director of the International Disaster Response Unit as he leads the operations from the ministry’s headquarters in North Carolina. He shares that the Ukraine response is being overseen by a Samaritan’s Purse Incident Management Team (IMT) as they coordinate with teams on the ground in Poland, Romania, and Moldova.

“Our teams are ready,” Dave told Kristy. “Samaritan’s Purse is active in so many parts of the world. We never know how God is using these opportunities to rise up in times of challenge.”

Kristy and the team saw the IMT in action as they made phone calls, connected with teams on the ground, and quickly collaborated to move the response forward. More than 30 disaster response specialists are distributing critical relief supplies to the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians that have fled so far.

To close the episode, Kristy calls Ken Isaacs, the Samaritan’s Purse vice president of programs and government relations. Immediately after the crisis, Ken was on the ground in Poland to start assessing the greatest needs and preparing teams to respond. He shares what he’s witnessing in Poland as they open their arms to their Ukrainian neighbors as they flee the violence.
