Andrew McCauley’s Results Activity Tip

Laura: Andrew, a lot of people are quite familiar with the Pareto Principle, otherwise known as the 80-20 Rule where 20 percent of our efforts truly generate 80 percent of our results. But here’s the trick. A lot of people don’t even know how to identify those 20 percent activities that are going to generate your revenue and be the most valuable. So what’s a tip that you can share to help somebody identify their 20 percent?

Andrew: Laura, I’d say you want to measure everything you do. Measuring… If you can’t measure, then you might as well not do it because if you’re not measuring it, you don’t know what’s working and what’s not working.

So use things like Google Analytics. If you are thinking, ‘Well, I’m not sure if my social media strategy is working,’ go and find out from Google Analytics or find out from analytics that those social platforms had. Pinterest has Analytics. Facebook has Analytics. You know, Twitter has Analytics. They have all really, really good Analytics. You need to be measuring this sort of stuff because if you can’t measure it, you’re going to be running around with your head cut off.

Now, if you’re having trouble thinking, ‘Well, why don’t I have it set up Google Analytics? I’ve never done it before,’ go to an Elance, go to a Fiber, go to somewhere that somebody can set it up for you. You don’t need to go and spend hours and hours and hours learning about it. SPEND yourself $5 and get somebody who knows how to do it to set it up for you so that you can get the reports you need to look at and not waste your time.

Now, to be honest with you, Google Analytics is a big monster. There’s lots of information there and it can be overwhelming, so don’t get stuck in the overwhelm with that. Go and find somebody to create a report and say, “Here’s what I want to find out. I want to see if my efforts on blogging are working. Send me a report. Create a report for me and send it to me. I want to see if my social media activities are effective. Can you send me a report on all of the social sites that I’m sending people to or the people that are coming to my site from different social media platforms.

So get specific, know what you want, and then find somebody who sets that up for you, and automatically, Google Analytics will send you a report on that exact thing, but as I said, don’t try to learn how to do it. Don’t try and spend the least time studying it. Go find someone who knows how to do it, pay them a little fee, and get it gone, and you’ll never have to look back again.
