Weather rewind:
– Pleasant and warm weather felt great until a heat wave arrived late in the week.
– The onshore flow was temporarily enhanced by a trough off the Washington coast and was responsible for the cooler weather this past week.
– The Nevada County Fair was spared the hottest of temps until the weekend.

Weekly Forecast:
-The coming week looks to start out hot, but a gradual cooling trend is in the forecast as another trough parks itself right along the California coast, increasing the onshore flow.
-Expect daytime highs to reach the low 90s in Grass Valley/Nevada City early in the week then drop to the upper 80s by the weekend.
-High pressure will remain the dominating weather feature for the time being, but monsoon moisture is expected to begin drawing into the Sierra Crest late in the week as the trough along the coast pushes inland destabilizing the very stable air mass over the western Nevada. T’storms look like a good possibility over the Sierra, but we will most likely remain dry here in Nevada City. Hikers and boaters alike should keep an eye on the forecast as the weekend approaches as this summer t’storms may return to the high country after being absent most of this summer.
-Long range forecast models keep us relatively dry for the next 7-10 days, with a cooling trend expected to continue through next weekend.
La Niña Outlook:
La Niña has about a 55- 60% chance of developing during the fall and winter 2016-17. Climatologists predict a weak event, if La Niña forms. This is great news as a weak La Niña means we have a better chance of having a normal wet winter!
Another trough will bring us cooler weather late in the week, but a chance of t’storms over the Sierra Crest.

June – August Precipitation and Temperature Outlook: Dry and hot!

The Nevada County fair was a blast and crazy fun on Saturday

Current reservoir levels still look great.

The onshore flow will return strong late in the week. Hot until then.

The jet stream will remain weak as summer bakes us one more time.

Forecast models look dry early in the week, but some t’storm activity will mainly affect the Sierra Crest by next weekend.
