86°F A hot week comes to an end as skies remain clear and a cooling trend arrives.

July 16, 2016

Hey Hey Giovanni here! Your Weatherguy. Here are this week’s Podcast shownotes.
Weather rewind:
– Cool start to the week gives way  to much hotter temps as High pressure offshore cuts off the onshore flow, pushing temps back up into the low to mid 90s by Wednesday.
– The week ended dry and much warmer, but a cooling trend is on the way as a trough offshore temporarily cools us off on Sunday through much of next week.

Weekly Forecast:
-The coming week looks very dry and becoming hot by week’s end.
-Expect daytime highs to reach the low 90s in Grass Valley/Nevada City while Penn Valley gets closer to the mid 90s  by Friday.
-Long range forecast models keep us dry for the next 7-10 days and hot again as the end of July approaches. Still no sign of the monsoon flow as a strong jet stream to our north keeps the Sierra free of any t’storms for the foreseeable future, which is one of the many telltale signs of La Niña developing across the Pacific ocean.
A trough keeps us cooler early in the week.

June – August Precipitation and Temperature Outlook: Dry and hot!

I’ll be heading into the Sierra crest this coming week, but unlike last year when I took this picture there won’t be any raging t’storms.

Current reservoir levels still look great.

The onshore flow will be a lot stronger in the coming days, but a warming trend returns by next Friday.

The jet stream to our north will not only keep us dry, but also keep the monsoon flow out of the Sierra.

Forecast models look dry for us and hotter by the end of the coming week.

The precipitation outlook map for the coming week looks dry for us as High pressure keeps the rain out of our area.
