87°F The warmest week of the year so far ends with a light show as cooler weather heads our way.

June 05, 2016

Hey Hey Giovanni here! Your Weatherguy. Here are this week’s Podcast shownotes.
Weather rewind:
-What started out nice and warm late spring week turned into our first heatwave of the season as daytime highs reached into the low 90s.
– This has been the warmest week of the year thus far with many hotter days still to come this summer.
– High pressure onshore only strengthened as it settled overhead.
– An upper level Low pushed over the top of the ridge bringing an increased chance of showers and Sierra t’storms Saturday night through this evening and maybe Monday north of I80.
– Some cooling is expected within the next day or so as High pressure drifts east and allows the onshore flow penetrate farther inland.

Weekly Forecast:
-High pressure has peaked and will slowly drift east allowing for cooler weather (upper 70s) to return by midweek and into next weekend as a zonal flow increases the onshore breeze.
-Slight chance of t’storms over the Sierra crest this evening, but no surprise sprinkles are expected locally.
-Long range forecast maps keep us dry but cooler for the next 7-10 days.

June – August Precipitation and Temperature Outlook: A Hot and dry summer is on the way!

Head to the coast as it’s the place to go to cool off.

Current reservoir levels still look great as the snow slowly melts in the high country.

Satellite shows High pressure weakening as a cut off Low pushes inland to NE.

The jet stream will begin slip south and bring us a cooler air mass.

Forecast models look dry for us as the t’storm activity continues to push NE out of California.

The precipitation outlook map for the coming week will focus any t’activity to the NE.
