49°F Epic spring storms bring rain, hail and even heavy Sierra snow. Will spring ever arrive?

May 23, 2016

Hey Hey Giovanni here! Your weatherguy. Here are this week’s Podcast shownotes.
Weather rewind:
-Dry warm week turns cold and rainy.
-Late season upper level Low stalled out over the Sierra and western Nevada and brought showers and severe t’storms to NorCal.
– We had snow flurries down to 3000ft at times with heavy snow along the Sierra causes closures along Hwy 80 due to numerous accidents.
-Total rainfall with this storm reached 0.42″

Weekly Forecast:
-A zonal flow will keep us cooler with a slight chance of showers through much of the coming week as another, but weaker upper level Low drops into NorCal on Tuesday.
-Best chance for rain will be north of Hwy 80 and over the Sierra Crest.
-Unsettled weather pattern will turn warm and dry late in week as High pressure dominates our weather.
-T’storms each afternoon this week may produce brief heavy rain, windy conditions and snow above 7500ft.
-Severe t’storm development is unlikely as the jet stream will remain to our north.
*Statewide Sierra snow pack is at around 27% of normal for this date!
