61°F It’s getting warm out, but rain still possible later this week, and stay out of the raging rivers. They’re deadly.

April 17, 2016

Hey Hey Giovanni here! Your weatherguy. We started out with a bit of rain and then had a mostly cloudy week with a threat of rain that finally materialized early Thursday morning. These April storms are turning out to be a lot of hype as the moisture is either to our NE or to our far south into SoCal. But this is highly typical of early spring as the global weather patterns shift and we become a lot warmer with the days as strong High pressure returns. Tornado season is already developing across the great plains and locally the great snow melt is just starting to kick into high gear. Sadly this means increased flows and super cold water. A 17 yr old lost his life along the American River near Auburn this weekend as he swam in the fast cold water. STAY OUT! Seriously don’t be dumb. I know it’s been 5 yrs since we last had a real good snow melt and many of us have become accustomed to the gentle flows. Not this year. It’s already deadly out in the rivers. Stay in the shallows if you must play in the frigid waters, be smart. Stay alive. Don’t make me go out there and pull you out!

Weekly Forecast: Warm and warmer! Low to mid 80s across all of Western Nevada County are expected through Tuesday before a gradual cool down arrives by Wednesday when a weak storm to our north will threaten the north coast and Northern Sierra with a few showers. A better chance arrives late Thursday into Friday as a stronger system sags a cold front into NorCal. This storm will be mostly showery in nature and will hang around through Friday and possibly all the way into Sunday with westerly flow that will keep us cooler, partly cloudy, and potentially wet. I’m not expecting more than a 0.30-0.50″ of rain through the weekend with snow levels remaining above 6000ft for the most part. Remember to hold off on any gardening. We are not quite done with the late season storminess and a freeze is still possible above 2000ft.
*Statewide Sierra snow pack is at around 68% of normal for this date! The snow is melting fast with these warm temps.
