53°F The first week of spring comes to a close with low snow possible this coming Monday morning.

March 27, 2016

Hey Hey Giovanni here! Your weatherguy. Happy Easter everyone. I hope you had an awesome day. The first full week of spring started wet and continued the March Miracle. Overall we only picked up 1.75" of rain in Nevada City as a late winter Pacific cold front pushed inland and stalled out over our region. High pressure eventually pushed out this persistent Low to our east, bringing warmer and dry days for the rest of the week. This is pretty much what to expect this spring. Mostly dry warm days with a storm every week or two, before we completely dry out by late May. The week ended as it started with a chance of rain. The approaching storm is already inland, but the cold front won't bring us any rain. The rain and snow will be coming in from the NE as this cold Low drops in from the Northern Sierra late tonight.

Weekly Forecast: Rain is in the forecast tonight and Monday as a Low will continue to push cold unstable air into our region from the NE. We won't be seeing much rain as this moisture starved system retrogrades, but more importantly we may see up to 7" of snow along the Sierra crest where most of the moisture will be falling. Light rain, and t'storms are possible through Monday afternoon in Nevada City, but this system may continue to hang out over the Sierra through Wednesday continuing the threat of snow. Snow levels will drop to near 2500ft late tonight, but any accumulation will remain light. We clear out by mid week, leading to warmer dry days into the weekend. Long range forecast models are hinting to wet start to April, but a lot can change before next week.

*Statewide Sierra snow pack is at around 88% of normal for this date!

My BloomSky this evening as a chance of rain develops in Nevada City!

Huge improvements continue overall in most areas from just last fall.

An inside slider approaches from the NE after coming ashore. Might we see some showers and low snow?

The jet stream will drop over our region on Monday bringing cooler air and showers.

Forecast models look wet tonight and Monday especially over the Sierra.

The precipitation outlook map for the coming week is looking wet mostly to our east.
