Hi there, it’s Carla Rose. 
We know a lot of things now about food, natural food, organic food that we didn’t know before. And I’d like to talk a little bit with you more about organic food. Because the word “organic†gets thrown around, it gets misused and it’s very important to understand the truth about it…
I really want you to understand “natural†and “organic†absolutely don’t mean the same thing. And why “natural†on the label can really fool you because a lot of things aren’t will say that they’re natural.

What does organic mean exactly?
What is that word?
When we say something’s not really totally organic even if it says organic on the label, why isn’t it completely organic? What is that?
It has to be in a field that has not had any pesticides in it for three years, okay. That’s a long time. So you can see this takes awhile for somebody to be able to reach that achievement of calling something “certified organicâ€.
Now when you look at a food, one food, let’s say it’s an apple. Alright.
That’s one food.
You say that’s organic? That’s easy. No problem understanding that. It’s when you start mixing things together that things get a little confusing, okay?
If 80% of the organic ingredients really are a great organic but 20% of them have pesticides and they’re GMO, they could still say “Made with organic ingredientsâ€, okay.
If they have less than 70% organic ingredients, they can’t use the term “organicâ€.
So that’s the rule.
That’s how it works with our federal regulations.
The second thing is that you have to really understand that if something says “organic†on it, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s healthy.
Because we can grow sugar, for example, in a field without pesticides but if you load up on sugar eventhough the sugar is organic, that’s not healthy for you. Okay? So you don’t want to get confused between the simple word “organic†on a label and how much you should eat of that thing.
There’s nothing automatic about organic meaning healthy every time or that you eat unlimited amounts of it because it says “organic.â€
If it says not really totally organic, it says organic on the label or made with organic ingredients; again, that maybe a mixture of things that are not healthy for you, that do have dangerous things in them and you really have to read those labels carefully.
And finally, let’s talk about natural, okay.
We’ve talked about what organic means.
We’ve talked about things that have some organic ingredients in them. Now we’re going to get after this idea of “naturalâ€.
Everything you pick up in the grocery store that’s in a box or a package or a can, they love to put “natural†on that because people want to do what’s natural.
It used to be before the food manufacturing industry had come up with so many concoctions that they mix together with chemicals and put in boxes and sell to us, you know, if something said “naturalâ€, it probably was.
I mean when my kids were little if I went to the store and I bought something that said “naturalâ€, I would read the label and there might be three things in there; it was natural.
Now, things have changed. You go to the store and you walk down the middle of the store, most of the things are in packages and boxes and cans and have labels on them.
And they love to market with the word “natural†and it may not be natural at all. Natural what? Natural chemicals? Please!
