G’day guys. My name is Rodney Holder and I’ve been a drummer, performer, writer, promoter, and manager for over twenty five years.
I have a bachelor degree in communication and media production and have been teaching music business studies at tafe college since 1999.
My career in the music industry began back in 1987- Initially as a drummer and co manager of my psychedelic metal band Alchemist
www.alchemist.com.au
Between 1990 and 2010 we released numerous internationally acclaimed albums, toured Australia countless times, and performed at some of the world’s biggest metal festivals in Europe- sharing the bills with the likes of Iron Maiden, Slayer, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Kiss and Venom to name a few.
Check out one of my records if you’re keen. Alchemist Tripsis
I was also the co-promoter and organiser of Australia’s largest and longest running all- Australian metal festival- Metal For The Brain. From 1991 to 2005 Metal For The Brain was the premium metal show in Australia and raised tens of thousands of dollars for The National Brain Injury Foundation and brain injury victim- Alec Hurley
After completing my communication/media production degree in 1998, I began sharing my knowledge and industry experiences with other musicians. I have lectured at educational institutions in the ACT, NSW and QLD.
I currently teach a Diploma of music business at The Southbank Institute of Technology in Brisbane.
I’m also the Brisbane representative for Australian touring company Soundworks Touring and I have worked with such prestigious metal bands as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Arch Enemy, Exodus, Napalm Death, Behemoth and Carcass to name a few.
In 2013 I  launched www.musicbusinessfacts.com A music business blog and podcast that interviews successful music business professionals who share their histories, strategies and tips for success.
I’m passionate about guiding aspiring musicians, songwriters, promoters, managers, publicists, agents, labels, and other music industry “wantrepreneurs” navigate the intricacies and challenges of the ever evolving music industry.
I strive to help fast track the career’s of those who have the work ethic, drive, talent and ambition to succeed in the brutally competitive, yet amazingly rewarding and exciting world that is the music business.
