77: 4 Ways to Maximize Your Morning with a Nighttime Routine

July 06, 2015

In the last episode of the this two-part series, I shared the 4 ways to maximize your morning mindfulness, and how you can use the first few hours of the day as a valuable launchpad. Today's episode is all about the importance of creating a nighttime routine so you can wake up with the fullest intention and jump into your morning routine without distraction.
4 Ways to Maximize Your Morning with a Nighttime Routine:
1. Set the Table -get things ready the night before. If you work a full time job like I do, get your lunch and snacks ready for the next day.  Get ahead of the game and do them the night before!

2. Meditation and Prayer - In Part 1, you started your day with meditation. Ending your day with silence and reflection is just as important. "Wrapping your day with mindfulness" is a habit that helps you contemplate the day's events, as well as envision in your mind exactly how your next day will play out.

3. Write in a Journal - turn off the digital devices and sit with an old-fashioned pen an paper to write about your day. You can also use this time to systematize step-by-step what you'll do tomorrow. You can make it visual and turn this into an art journal, which I write about here.  In episode 67, I chat with Tabetha Hedrick, and we talk about the power of the written journal, and how it allows you to express yourself in a more uninhibited way. Unlike a digital journal, it's just you, a blank page, and some fabulous pens!

4. Go to Bed with Intention - as you drift off to sleep, envision the next morning in detail. One of my favorite things to imagine is how I will get to see the sunrise while out on my morning run. Hold this seed in your mind as you drift off to sleep. If you do this consistently, you will wake up ready to jump into your morning with excitement.
