Horrible Imaginings Podcast 188: Celebrate Pride with LGBTQ Horror Filmmakers!

June 05, 2018

It is Pride Month! We here at Horrible Imaginings recognize this tradition every year with our festival partners FilmOut San Diego. This year they are celebrating their 20th anniversary, and we have invited several of their selected filmmakers to join us on the podcast. These filmmakers decided to not only put their efforts into their LGBT stories, but also to focus those stories through the lens of horror or thriller genre cinema. That is going to be the focus of this episode, particularly. We believe horror can be a way for different people to experience each other's stories, and realize their similarities as much as any differences.

I have a number of great artists to talk about their work and these ideas today, but here they are in order of appearance on the podcast:
Neal Mulani, director of Fish Tank
Chris Phillips, director of Night Shift
Stan Madray, director of Hookup
Sam Wineman, director of The Quiet Room
Matthew Montgomery, director of the feature film Devil's Path
We always appreciate the strong genre presence in the programming of FilmOut San Diego. I hope that, if you are in the area, you will join me to help celebrate their 20th anniversary event, which opens this Thursday, June 7th, as of the release of this podcast. If you aren’t in the area, you will still enjoy these conversations that go into the processes and philosophies behind these films. Again, the 2018 FilmOut San Diego will be June 7 - June 10 at The Observatory North Park here in San Diego, California. Get your tickets here!

Passes are NOW selling for the 9th Annual Horrible Imaginings Film Festival at our new location! Get them before they are gone!

Festival founder and podcast host Miguel Rodriguez was also included, among 47 other horror professionals, in this collection of essays detailing how our favorite horror films shaped who we became. It is a great read, available NOW! Get it and please review it!
