Fast Food is Fat Food

November 14, 2014

In our busy lives we can often be left with no choice but to take a trip to our local fast food joint to re-fuel. However, if done too often this can be detrimental to our health and our waistlines.
This week join Amy Monarch and Teresa Leberknight of The Monarch and Dr T as they inform you on how to make smart choices when faced with fast food. Also, they prompt you to take some time out to self-reflect on your journey.
This episode focuses on the problem with fast food joints and how to take back control, without feeling like you’re missing out.
Move Those Funky Feet
One of the most important parts of your weight loss journey is movement. It doesn’t have to be a slog in the gym five times a week to drop those inches; it’s about taking simple steps towards moving more.
The next time you go to a restaurant park on the other side of the parking lot, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.
It might not seem like a big deal but recent research shows that diabetes sufferers who move more, live longer. You Have Options Whenever you go out for a meal whether it’s from a drive-thru window or a restaurant table, remember, the service staff are there to serve you.
It’s ok to ask for half the portion, or a fruit packet instead of fries. While you’re at it, skip the breadbasket and request the restaurant give it to another customer.
Include the cashier or waiter in your decision by asking for their advice on what items are best for a diabetic. In doing this you’re passing on the education meaning they might be able to help someone they know.
Don’t think you can see anything healthy on the menu? Opt for the item with the most protein. It’s about making smart choices and giving yourself alternatives when you don’t have an array of options.
Listen this week as Amy and Teresa answer questions like:

What options do I have with fast food?
How do I move more without going to the gym?
What is the best breakfast routine?
How do I keep on top of my portion sizes?
What protein sources are best for vegetarians?
How do I kick my soda habit?
How do I overcome that ‘groggy’ feeling?

It’s time to educate yourself, and others, that there are options. Even with a hectic lifestyle, even with diabetes.
Look at how far you’ve come and share your ups and downs with The Monarch and Dr T community. You’re starting to make positive changes to your life, health and happiness by taking back the control and we want to know about it.
What have you accomplished this past week? What did you try to implement, and how did it work out?
