What’s Up with Fat?

November 11, 2014

Are you often confused with what is good fat and what is bad? Which fats are ok for you to eat and which ones do you need to avoid? Well here are all the answers you’ve been looking for.
This week join Amy Monarch and Teresa Leberknight of The Monarch and Dr T as they help you understand the good, the bad and the downright ugly world of fat.
This episode focuses on clearing up the confusion when it comes to consuming fat. With simple tips and tricks on what to look out for when introducing healthy fats into your diet.
Here Are the Basics
We are often told eating fat will make us fat. However, this is not necessarily the case. There are good fats we actually need to help our bodies function correctly.
Each of our cell membranes are made up of fat; your nervous tissue is surrounded by myelin sheaths which need the good fats to properly function.
Then there’s cholesterol, something that builds up in our bodies and arteries due to a more sedentary, modern lifestyle. We simply aren’t as active as we used to be, so cholesterol doesn’t have as much work to do to patch up any internal damage. This means it can just stay put and cause problems.
It’s all about the Sources
It’s important to think about the source of your food. Is it natural, or is it synthetic and man made?
Raising your awareness of what food contains is half the battle. It’s about taking the time to read the labels on your food, and making the conscious decision to gravitate towards certain foods.
It’s time to learn which fats you should avoid and which to eat more of. Helping you on the road to reducing, and possibly eradicating, your diabetes symptoms.
Eating certain oils helps replace the myelin sheaths. As some recent research suggests these oils can not only help diabetes symptoms, but has been shown to have positive effects on diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
In this episode Amy and Teresa discuss these important topics:

What are good/bad fats?
Can I not just go fat free?
Why do we need to eat fat?
What are the best sources for the good fats?
What am I looking for on my food labels?
When cooking, what should I be using?
Why shouldn’t I re-use oils when cooking?
