MMA Fight Focus Podcast: UFC 186 Recap/Fight Night 65 Preview

May 07, 2015

So much to discuss! Mayweather/Pacquiao proves that MMA is the future of combat sports with a lackluster showing. The UFC loses one of it's biggest stars to another round of legal troubles; is there an asterisk attached to the Light-Heavyweight Championship? Another pay-per-view loses some star power to training-related injuries; can the UFC finally get fight teams to buy in to the "train smarter, not harder" philosophy?

Meanwhile, in Montreal, the UFC 186 Prelims were dominated by Canadians. On the Main Card, young Thomas Almeida emerges at 135, Michael Bisping and C.B. Dollaway put on a show, and "Rampage" returns to slug it out with Fabio Maldonado. But Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson steals the show yet again; this time, the Flyweight Champion literally wins at the last possible second, setting an unbreakable record and laying claim to the #1 Pound-For-Pound fighter in the world.

Plus, Stipe Miocic and Mark Hunt are set to meet down under at Fight Night 65 (Australia), with a potential title shot on the line. Brad Tavares' stock is soaring at Middleweight; can he continue his ascent through the rankings against New Zealander Robert Whittaker? Youngsters Jake Matthews (20) and Kailin Curran (24) look to alert the MMA universe that the future is now with big victories in unfriendly territory. "Smilin'" Sam Alvey has a new stated mission, but before he can get off the ground he'll have to get past Australian judo ace Dan Kelly. And the war of words between Bec Rawlings and Lisa Ellis got obscene; can the action in The Octagon match the intensity of the verbal battle?

All that and more in this week's episode of the MMA Fight Focus Podcast!
