MMA Fight Focus Podcast: Fight Night 62 Recap & 63 Preview

April 02, 2015

The Brazillians dominated in front of their countrymen in Rio de Janeiro, including a main event decision win for Welterweight veteran Demian Maia over Ryan Laflare. Erick Silva, Leonardo Santos, Amanda Nunes, Gilbert Burns, Godofredo Pepey, Kevin Souza, and Leonardo Mafra all won at home with stoppages, and Francisco Trinaldo completed the sweep for the Brazilian fighters with a decision victory. Without any title picture implications, the stoppages turned a bland card on paper into an entertaining night of fast-paced action.

Now, as the UFC kills a little more time before the busy, title fight-laden summer months, the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA hosts Fight Night 63: Mendes vs. Lamas this coming Saturday night, April 4th, free on Fox Sports 1. Former Featherweight title contenders Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas battle for relevance in one of the sport's most competitive divisions, with a possible return to title contention going to the winner. Plus, up-and-coming Lightweights Jorge Masvidal and Al Iaquinta meet, with designs on a major rankings bump. Michael Chiesa, Clay Guida, Dustin Poirier, Liz Carmouche and Gray Maynard are always entertaining (win or lose), and Juliana Pena makes her first appearance in The Octagon since winning The Ultimate Fighter 18 back in 2013; is a win here enough to land The Venezuelan Vixen a title shot against Ronda Rousey?
