The Mighty Ducks and Young Stardom with Blair Belliveau

November 24, 2014

Young Hollywood stars and starlets seem to have a perpetual home in the tabloids. Failed marriages, alcohol and substance abuse, trouble with the law… being famous is fraught with peril, but growing up famous seems to hurt more than help. Not many survive the Hollywood grind, either going a little crazy or dropping out entirely.

However, 1992 introduced the world to The Mighty Ducks, a group of rambunctious, hard luck kids led by former teen star Emilio Estevez. Despite headlining three films, the last especially much more focused on the kids than Estevez’s Gordon Bombay, most of the young stars of The Mighty Ducks came away unscathed, with a handful – Joshua Jackson, Marguerite Moreau, and Elden Henson – continuing interesting acting careers.

What was the magic formula for The Mighty Ducks? Not only in its success, but its seeming lack of drama and scandal? What lessons does it teach to young kids, 22 years later? This week, Tobias and Ivey welcome Blair Belliveau from Super Lamp Shades to discuss The Mighty Ducks and Young Stardom!
