The stats below illustrate why you should be using LeadBoxes from LeadPages. (Obvs, the middle one with 17 views wasn’t deployed yet, ignore it!). LeadBoxes are little opt-in popups that appear when you click a link.   You can see an example of one on this blog post: First, a reader sees and clicks the “Download PDF” button within the article: Then, they see the actual LeadBox, asking for their email address to be sent the download: There are 2 very interesting things about this method and these stats: Firstly, there’s no magic “lead magnet” or “secret” in the download. What people are getting is a PDF download of the post THEY ARE ALREADY READING. They could just read the blog post, but people are still attached to downloading, printing and in a little way, “owning” content. Feeling like it’s safe and secure. Downloading a PDF allows them to do that. A hat tip to James Schramko for the idea to use a PDF transcript of the blog post as the downloadable the user opts-in for. The point here is that you don’t need to create a crazy incentive for your readers to opt-in. If your content is good, they will – even when the information they are opting-in for is already available to them! Secondly, the opt-in rates are really high with LeadBoxes. Getting opt-in rates like 79% and 73% without creating any additional content is INCREDIBLE. Leadpages wrote that they see a relative increase in opt-in conversions of about 30% using a two-step opt-in process over a one-step opt-in. But I didn’t believe them until I tried it. The emotional commitment of proceeding through a 2-step form makes a big difference in the end results.
