An Irritating Teachable Moment

August 24, 2015

I was studying my daily Scriptures; and as part of my routine every morning, I recite Philippians 4:4-9. It begins in Verses 4-5 by saying “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to all men, the Lord is at hand.” Just as I finish reciting these two verses out loud, the phone rang. I don’t like when anything interrupts my Bible reading in the morning, but Nancy was not home, so I had to answer the phone. I got up, went from my office into the next room where the phone was. Somewhat irritated, I said, “Hello.” A voice on the other end of the phone said he was from the technical department of Microsoft, which was a lie. We get these calls every week, and every week I tell them not to call again, but they persist in doing so. Before the man could say another word, I got angry and shouted into the phone, “I don’t own a Microsoft computer – I have an Apple computer.” Then I hung up. I walked back into my office, looked at the Bible on my desk and my eyes went instantly to Philippians Chapter 4, Verse 5. It’s the verse that I had just finished reading when the call interrupted me. Let me share Verse 5 again with you. It says, “Let your gentleness be known to all men, the Lord is at hand.” I’m Dr. Bob. I would say it was a teachable moment.
