With What or Whom Will You Agree?

October 26, 2014

Consider this. It’s not just what we do. It’s what or whom we agree with that makes the difference. Paul understood this, and in Ephesians 4:22-24 (NKJV), he wrote about an exchange for every follower of Christ that will make this difference. Paul said, “that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, {24} and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.â€

Allow me to paraphrase Paul’s words for you: “Change your spiritual clothes. Replace your old carnal ways with a new uncompromising agreement with God and His Word. Put on your agreement with Him and wear it like it was your skin.†Our growth as Christians requires changes in our thinking and behavior. This is certainly the way it’s supposed to be. Yet, there is another element of our transformation that we also need to  “put off.†I’m speaking about tolerance for what God will not tolerate. The Bible never endorses tolerance for what God won’t tolerate. I’m speaking of what is called “political correctness†today. This really just means conforming to the corrupt thinking of the world around us. I’m Dr. Bob. We all need to continually ask ourselves what or whom will we agree with. Will this please God or will it grieve Him?
