Finance: Spending

May 23, 2015

In this episode--Episode 8--we discuss the third issue in the Finance Topic Series--Spending.  A spending discussion is integral to any discussion of finances because it's what I would say most people think of when they think of finances - what people buy.  We talk about spending more than you earn, spending to show off, and emotional spending.  It's very important to understand our spending habits and discuss healthy spending habits with our children.  When you listen to the episode, much like the credit episode, the consequences of spending are not necessarily intuitive.

For our fluff topic, we discuss our recent family vacation to New Orleans.  We definitely had a good time!  Here is a list of things we talked about in the episode, in no particular order:

Drury Inn & Suites

New Orleans School of Cooking

Audubon Zoo and Aquarium

Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour

Cemetery Voodoo and Walking Tour

Natchez Steamboat Dinner Cruise

and we also ate at The Court of Two Sisters for brunch one day.

For our Book Review, I review Sycamore Row by John Grisham.

For our Historical Spotlight, we highlight Ida B. Wells-Barnett, a fascinating and brilliant woman.  The information for the spotlight came from the book, Ida B. Wells-Barnett: A Voice Against Violence by Patricia and Frederick McKissack, a very child friendly book.

You can also find a video biography here.

That does it. As always, thank you for listening. Please join us next time!
