Supply Chain Crisis: Applying Long-Term Thinking

February 04, 2022

As supply chain disruptions continue, exacerbated by a variety of factors including Chinese port lockdowns, capacity constraints and huge cost increases, how should shippers be thinking about it? And given the ongoing investigation by the FTC into the causes, including requests for information from major retailers and CPGs, how much responsibility do shippers bear vs. ocean carriers and other parties? Abe Eshkenazi, CEO of the 45,000-member Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), said organizations need to take more of a long-term, systemic view to address issues vs. short-term fixes in response to a crisis. In this MCM CommerceChat podcast, Eshkenazi talks about the need for better visibility and analytics to read demand signals more consistently, and to take into account the upstream and downstream effects of efforts in any one node.
