19: Mukti Organic Skin Care

June 22, 2016

Mukti is the founder and cosmetic chemist at Mukti Organic Skincare, a leading certified organic Australian skin care company she launched in 2000 and is now international. Mukti is very passionate about organic, natural and cruelty-free skincare, and healthy, sustainable, organic lifestyle because health is not just about the food we put in our body, but what we put on our skin and the environment around us.
Mukti explains:

* Why we need to use organic skincare products.
* What culprits to look out for in mainstream products.
* What to be mindful of on labelling and the unregulated use of words like “organic” and “natural”.
* The limitations of the new cruelty free laws being introduced in Australia in 2017.

There are so many key takeaways from this episode. So many.
Simplify your skincare regime. Go on a skincare detox.
“It’s a big misconception that because it is sold in a pharmacy or supermarket that it is safe.”
We can all make a difference by what products we choose to purchase. You vote with your wallet.
If you want to support the environment, one of the first things you can do is purchase organic.
80% of chemicals in products have never been tested for safety, let alone in combination with other chemicals. The longterm compounding effects of these chemicals in our body are unknown. There is a practice of safe until proven otherwise. And unfortunately some have been shown in research to be detrimental to our health but still remain in products. Consumer outcry does create change, we just need to be more educated and raise more awareness about the issues and show support for the businesses producing products that aren’t harmful.
What we put on our body not only effects our health, but the health of the environment from the production of the ingredients through to them getting in the water ways.
There has been an increase in chemical sensitivities and illnesses.
There are chemicals that are known hormone disruptors, increase reproductive cancers, PCOS, and lead to early onset puberty.
In a study by the Environmental Working Group in 2009 showed that over 200 chemicals were found in the blood chord of infants.
There are 200 chemical constituents in perfume.

What is Mukti grateful of:
Conversations about health; that her work is her passion; family
What 3 things need to change:
Self-awareness; peace; love.
What advice would Mukti give a younger version of herself:
To love yourself.
One of huge resonating key takeaways was something Mukti said about loving yourself, and that is, in every situation you find yourself in, always ask “What would someone who loves themselves do?” And I think that this is a beautiful way to approach the challenges that we face and the decisions and cross-roads we find ourselves in. By simply asking yourself what someone who loves themselves would do in this situation, you see such different solutions and for me, it helps choose love over fear.
