The Daily Hash - Ambush Elections in America’s Labor Future?

April 11, 2014

We had the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with Aloysius Hogan of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. The topic of discussion: the potential for further restrictions on America’s economic competitiveness. Hogan’s specialty is labor policy and he was able to shed light on reports that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), is considering the imposition of measures that would:

Give organized labor veto power over an employer’s decision to relocate

Permit “ambush elections” in which opponents to a company’s unionization are given 10 days to officially register that opposition.

These efforts amount to “Card Check” on the sly, that is to say, their imposition, which is by no means foregone, comes via administrative versus legislative channels.

Hogan will be testifying on these matters before the NLRB on Friday, April 11, 2014.

He can be reached on Twitter: @HoganCEI as well as at Workplace Choice and the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
