Man In Beta - Life, Love and Happiness

Man In Beta - Life, Love and Happiness

What it is and what it isn't

December 01, 2014

The launch of a new podcast.  So different from the launch of Oh Beep!  For one, I have no co-host.  Thats a huge difference.  Also, there isn't as much stress to get it right first time (Oh Beep! was far from right first time - but I made it as right as I could with the resources I had, then stressed over it not being 100% right).  This time, I'm cutting myself some slack.  I know it will get better.

What's in this episode?

One thing is clear, I am VERY out of shape.  When you listen, that is more than apparent.  I'm not happy about the breathlessness, but I'm keeping this episode as a reminder.  Hopefully, down the line I can use it as a measure of how I have progressed in working on my fitness.

Whilst out and about, Geocaching, I decided to record the first episode.  Geocaching helps clear my mind and helps get me out and away from the usual daily stuff.

I talk about what this podcast is.   A few people my age (40) seem to be going through similar things to me.  Whether its health, personal crisis, work stress, feeling their age now their kids are growing up.  Whatever it is, I relate to much of it.  This podcast will cover these things (but not exclusively).  Now and again my geek side will show and I may discuss an app, or a gadget that I think may be useful.

This podcast is also a sort of therapy.  I suffer from depression and one of the things I was told to do was to keep a mood journal.  I tried doing that, its like a blog right?  I'm not really a blogger.  I lack the discipline.  But for some reason I'm disciplined when it comes to podcasting.  Maybe its because I have more interest in podcasting?  So, part of this will be a way of chronicling my mood etc as a way of keeping my head in a good place.

This podcast isn't aimed at giving ALL the answers to life.  Its just my experiences, that may help others.  The hope is to, hopefully, hear other peoples experiences.  Its a two way street.

I realised the other day that when I come out of a low period I never take time to look at my life and appreciate the good things in it.  I'm usually just relieved to be out of the dark place.  In this episode I take some time to appreciate some of the great things that have happened this week and this last year or so.

Also discussed is how putting my thoughts in to these podcasts may help my kids when I'm gone.  They may find something here that may prove useful in something they're experiencing.  We don't spend enough time gathering ALL the useful life experience our parents have gained - because we're busy gaining our own experience.  BUT, sometimes they may have knowledge that would have proved invaluable.

These are just some of the things covered in this episode.
