Deane Ogden: Music Making as a Digital Nomad

August 15, 2015

In 2010 Deane Ogden sold most of his belongings and purchased an around-the-world plane ticket in search of a new type of musical lifestyle.

Already an established studio musician and composer, his travels led him to create field recordings of impromptu jam sessions that culminated in his first solo effort titled Eastern Chronicles - an album that mixed Deane's western musical sensibilities with the sounds and culture of the Far East.

In 2013 Deane took steps to re-create the success of Eastern Chronicles, but this time in South Africa. The resulting album Kwela was released earlier this month.

In this interview Deane discusses his background, why he took to international travel to continue his musical journey and how he put together recording sessions with musicians that were continents away.
