Turning down lucrative job offers in a booming economy to pursue the entrepreneurial route right out of college is definitely taking the road less traveled. That’s the road Steve and Allison Tiek chose when they started their business. 
 
Disenchanted with the formulaic, mcmansion subdivisions they saw going up all around them at the time, Steve Tiek decided to focus on the small remodeling projects that had sustained him and Allison while completing their educations; confident that he could build off that momentum. Luck would have it, after the economy crashed, a whole new opportunity opened for Steve; as his passion for quality, detail, and timelessness — along with Allison stepping in to manage the office and business side of things — allowed for Tiek Built Homes to include editorial-worthy, custom builds.
